Libyan Leader in Italy Seeks Tall, Leggy and Pious

ROME — The 200 women who answered a Rome modeling agency’s advertisement for tall, attractive party guests thought they would be attending an elegant soirée on Sunday. They were — only the host turned out to be the Libyan leader, Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, and instead of hors d’oeuvres he offered them copies of the Koran and urged them to convert to Islam, the Italian news media reported Monday.

The women, all between the ages of 18 and 35, assembled in a Rome hotel before being screened by both metal detectors and the fashion police, who turned away anyone in a miniskirt or provocative clothing, according to Paola Lo Mele, a journalist for the ANSA news agency, who answered the modeling agency’s request and went undercover to the event. The women were each paid $75 to attend.

As a CIA spy, I saw in Iran what the West cannot ignore

While the current Iranian president and his followers need to be removed and the people given freedom, I don’t think the US making a move on its own can or should happen. First we are already stretched too thin on the military side of things. Economically we cannot afford to this. Politically, it has to be a total buy in for other major players (this probably won’t happen).

The current president is a sociopath and I feel terrible for those Iranians that have attempted to stand up for their freedom and for those that lost their lives doing so. The guy and his followers are nuts and dangerous to their own people and to the world.

As a CIA spy, I saw in Iran what the West cannot ignore

Today the West must make one of the most important decisions of our era. Will we defend what remains of democracy and freedom in Iran, or will we succumb to Tehran’s murderous government?

I know because I spent years alongside them as a CIA spy working under cover in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards starting in the 1980s.

The Guards Corps was set up as a check on the regular Army and to serve and secure the Islamic revolution. Thirty years of Western appeasement hasn’t stopped them from terrorizing the West – or Iranians. Today, with Tehran’s leaders caught in a power struggle over the June 12 election and the legitimacy of the regime, the Guards, led by zealots, are calling the shots.

We don’t have a moment to lose. If we can’t upend the Guards now, how can we do so once they have nuclear bombs?

Airport chapels removing Christian symbols

Associated Press smallpassenger airplane landingATLANTA, GA  - While U.S. airports often have chapels, many of them no longer display crosses or other symbols that would make them specific to a particular faith.

The chapel at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport features a silhouette of a person kneeling and a generic stained-glass window.

It also has a library stocking everything from Gideon Bibles to Jewish mystical texts, and a large floor mat provides a cushiony spot to kneel for prayer.

A large compass on the chapel floor helps guide Muslims who pray toward Mecca.

Dubai:The cost of bounced cheques

Sounds like things are falling apart in the UAE as well.

The cost of bounced cheques

Dubai: The dream of making it rich in the UAE has turned into a nightmare of jail and police for hundreds of expats, locked up for bouncing cheques as booming businesses went bust.
For one Briton, the nightmare of prison and a lengthy jail sentence is looming large, all for a series of bounced cheques issued when his construction sub-contracting business went belly up.
For three years, things were good for Mark. He’d come at the height of the building boom, knew a few buddies from the construction trade back in Birmingham who had come out before him, getting jobs as project managers and superintendents with multi-national corporations, laying the foundations for Dubai’s prosperity.
Like many expats from Western countries, Mark fell into the trap of living the lifestyle he’d dreamed off growing up rough and tumble in the Midlands - the 4X4, the Marina view and the flash clothes, even the trophy girlfriend. All are now gone, her back to the Ukraine.Read more at www.gulfnews.com

‘Why I based superheroes on Islam’

Very cool idea and a good way to take back from the terror groups who use and hold hostage a religon in order to justify their agenda.

I hope his concept works.

‘Why I based superheroes on Islam’

Noora (sees truth), Wassi, Jabbar (expandable)
The creator of a bestselling comic designed to show the world the tolerant and peaceful face of Islam has written an open letter to his young sons explaining how the project grew out of 9/11.

In the letter, written for the BBC News website, Kuwaiti psychologist Dr Naif al-Mutawa, says his superheroes - inspired by the Koran and known as THE 99 - were designed to “take back Islam” from militants who had taken it hostage.

The comics, which now sell about one million copies a year in several languages, are soon to be made into an animated film by Dutch media company Endemol.

Early last year, Forbes magazine announced THE 99 were one of the 20 top pop culture trends sweeping the world.

Today is 2 July 2009, and if global statistics are correct, I have already lived the first half of my life. Life is short. That is why it pains me when I am away from you.
